Blockchain anyone?

I have been referring to blockchain a few times, related to conservation (Generative preservation)+ (Préservation Générative) and  related to the creation of (Mouchette.org Version 01) for the sale  to the Stedelijk Museum.
Now I am gathering information.
There is a very interesting article debating the subject: Digital Art as ‘Monetised Graphics’: Enforcing Intellectual Property on the Blockchain, by Martin Zeilinger
In case this article disappears from online you can download the pdf here: Zeilinger

In this article two softwares are mentioned: Monegraph and Ethereum

I
am particularly interested in the idea of a smart contract expressed in Ethereum,  like this:

“Build a new kind of decentralized application

Now it’s your turn: start building what you dream of creating in Ethereum! Could your business be enhanced by operating on a cryptographically secure, decentralized, tamper-proof network?
Check out the many great projects* already being built on Ethereum. And since you’ll be among the first developers in the world that are able to program decentralized applications, some of them might need your help.”

It was inspiring to read about these many great projects and I could really see mine among those…

I recognized a name I know from long ago: Roberto Valenti, who designed this interface for me.

Profeth, a highly utopian project in economy, not about a smart contract but about a complete interlconnected economy of smart contracts… beautifully prophetic!

I also read another article about Blockchain and digital art:

The Tech behind Bitcoin Could Help Artists and Protect Collectors. So Why Won’t They Use It?

This article has many examples of artists using blockchain to sell their digital work. It promotes a platform using blockchain for securing editions: Ascribe
Lock in attribution, securely share and trace where your digital work spreads. This is how they advertise themselves on their website.

It seems more limited to securing graphics while letting them circulate.

But who knows…

When informing about the blockchain, the word resonate again and again like a sort of mantra, without a clear of what of it is. Furtherfield is full of enthusiasm and their video is called “The Blockchain: change everything forever”

Here is a TED talk giving a bit more factual information, starting with the bitcoin and giving some examples of platforms using the blockchain now.

Here is a DEMO of how it works , quite technical, but worth the time.

SIND Fonds heeft een open call voor “Blockchain for Good”

A Golem project, based on Ethereum and operating from Warsaw!

“Golem is a global, open sourced, decentralized supercomputer that anyone can access. It’s made up of the combined power of user’s machines, from personal laptops to entire datacenters. Anyone will be able to use Golem to compute (almost) any program you can think of, from rendering to research to running websites, in a completely decentralized & inexpensive way.The Golem Network is a decentralized sharing economy of computing power, where anyone can make money ‘renting’ out their computing power or developing & selling software.”
